Heswall

Heswall based Churchill Living is bringing forward proposals for a new retirement living development on brownfield land at 268 Telegraph Road, Heswall.

Welcome

Churchill Living is bringing forward proposals to redevelop the vacant former Heswall Centre building for a high quality retirement living development for the over 60s. The Heswall Centre closed in September 2024, after being declared surplus to requirements by Wirral Council and adult social care services relocated to other sites on the Wirral.

Churchill Living is a leading UK retirement living operator that builds and manages communities designed exclusively for the over 60s.

Land at the former Heswall Centre represents an exciting opportunity to bring a brownfield site back into beneficial use, delivering high-quality homes for older people in the centre of Heswall, and with a design that respects the character of the surrounding area. The site is in a sustainable location situated off Telegraph Road, and sits adjacent to Puddydale Park, behind the ambulance station, Heswall and Pensby Group Practice and Oakley Pharmacy.

Churchill’s vision is for 42 high-quality, retirement living apartments and 4 Retirement Living Cottages, together with an owners’ lounge, welcome centre, landscaped gardens and car parking.

Benefits

Regenerating the a brownfield site

The proposals offer an opportunity to bring a vacant brownfield site back into beneficial use, representing a significant investment in Heswall and reducing the need for greenfield development.

Supporting local businesses

The site is in the centre of Heswall town centre, presenting an opportunity for an uplift in footfall and expenditure for local shops, cafés and services.

Meeting the needs of older people

Moving to a Churchill community allows residents to maintain their independence and enjoy an active, low-maintenance lifestyle in a supportive, age-friendly environment.

Respecting the local vernacular

The building design has evolved to reflect the character of Heswall, using locally prevalent materials.

Reducing demand on the health services

Retirement communities help reduce the risk of health challenges by providing level access throughout, tackling loneliness and improving residents’ safety and security.

Freeing up family homes

Providing homes at the top of the housing ladder helps release family properties back onto the local market and, in turn, homes for first-time buyers.

Manns Lodge (Cranleigh)

The location of my new apartment couldn’t be better, we’re right next to the High Street and everything we need is on our doorstep. I lived a bit further out before, and whilst I can still drive at the moment it’s nice to know that I won’t have to rely on the car in future.

Invicta Lodge (Westwood Cross)

I previously lived in a three-bed semi-detached house just 500 yards away from Invicta Lodge. Moving here is the best thing I ever did, my apartment is just right and it’s nice to have a bit of company around me as well as safety and security.
